Working with employers

‘If that group of employees (refugees) had not been here in the last two years, would we have been able to maintain the calibre of staff we currently have? Probably not’

Employer

Many employers have seen positive results from employing refugees. In a recent Employability Forum study, employers praised the commitment, high levels of motivation and strong work ethic of refugees and noted the increased diversity that these employees brought to their workforce.

The Trellis Project engages employers and trade unions to raise awareness of the benefits of employing refugees and show how employers and refugees can work profitably together. We hold employer awareness events and work with employers to identify and promote best practice in the recruitment and employment of refugees.

Some employers remain hesitant to recruit refugees; they may be fearful of employing illegal workers or are confused about whom they may employ and how they can verify this. The Trellis Project works with employers to dispel some of the myths and misconceptions surrounding refugees. We provide specialized support and information about recruiting and employing refugees and employers’ rights and responsibilities.
